Understanding

Steel processing refers to the steelmaking process from the beginning to the end. It includes everything from handling raw materials, cutting steel, forming and welding pieces together, heat treating parts to make them stronger, machining, and finishing touches.

The basic steelmaking process:

• Melting and casting: Raw materials are used and combined to make steel. The common materials are silicon, iron ore, chromium, nickel, and more. They're melted together in an extremely hot furnace for eight to 12 hours. After that, the dissolved metals are cast in different incarcerations.

• Forming: The forming process is when the casts are hot rolled, which means they're heated once more and pushed through hot rollers. For instance, slab casts are turned into sheets, plates, or strips.

• Annealing: Annealing is an essential step because it eliminates the internal stress found in the new metal. In this process, the metals are heated again and then cooled under tightly controlled environments.

• Die-scaling: During annealing, the surface build-up will form on the steel. It must be removed using different techniques, such as electro-cleaning or pickling.

• Cutting: Once the surface build-up is removed, it must be cut into different pieces. The standard cutting techniques are shearing, punching, guillotining, and sawing. 

• Finishing: When the metal is treated to improve its corrosion resistance and surface quality, the last step will be finishing. It will receive a heated coat of oil, paint, or powder in this process. It depends on the customer's specific preferences or demands.
